A BRIGHT, LOCAL SPOT ON COVENTRY

Today, I discovered Piccadilly Artisan Yogurt on Coventry in Cleveland Heights. Tasty, organic, locally made froyo (with vegan options and hopefully local, seasonal toppings soon). Oh, what fun! And just in time for spring.

Among today's flavor selections at Piccadilly were tart plain, pomegranate, banana, chocolate, blackberry, raspberry and more. The yogurt was light, and while I found it a bit icy rather than creamy, it was flavorful and refreshing. Piccadilly's yogurt is also packed with all the nutrition of yogurt because it's pasteurized before the live cultures are added, not after as many commercial frozen yogurts are.

You can crown your yogurt with a variety of toppings including the standard crushed-up candy bars as well as more nutritious options like granola, fresh fruit and berries which just might justify frozen yogurt as breakfast. Perched on the counter, I also spied some good looking, baked-in-the-neighborhood cookies and brownies.

The decor is nothing short of adorable. It makes good use of this spring's hot color, yellow and cool, mid-century-mod furnishings. Table-tops made by local deconstructionist-designers, A Piece of Cleveland (APOC) and light fixtures crafted from giant whisks discovered at a restaurant supply warehouse add a nice up-cycled touch. Even the front door of the former tenant, the Grog Shop, has been transformed into a counter.

While the weather is warm, or even if it's not, pay Piccadilly a visit. They're doing a great job of brightening up the North end of Coventry Road.
